This bullet does expand, so do not expect several feet of straight-line penetration as you’ll get with our non-expanding hard cast 180 gr. Load.     I shot this through my 4″ 686 at 25 yards and was able to group my first three shots into a perfect 1-1/4″ triangle. That’s pretty good for me since I have to use reading glasses to see the front sight clearly, doing this makes the target less clear but I still got a good group. In other words the ammo can shoot better than I can. It grouped pretty good at 50 yards although the target was very blurry. Windage was very consistent, elevation varied but that was me. Lastly, cleaning the burnt powder residue was exceptionally easy.

    I have used many types of loads and rounds in .357, everything from factory to hot custom loads. Out of all of them I have found these to be the over all best for over all use. The 140gr round is a perfect balance for both hunting and defense. The expansion is almost always perfect. They handle well in all pistols, even the lighter short barrels. I’ve had zero feed issues in lever actions and automatic Desert Eagles. While they are over kill as a defense round they will definitely get the job done. If you can’t decide between 125gr or 158gr then these 140gr Barnes will be the best of everything.

    Have a good bit of experience with Barnes all copper rifle slugs so I tried this cartridge. Rounds are unusually consistent in terms of seating on the cannulure, probably the most cosmetically perfect factory pistol ammo I’ve ever seen. Hoped it would be a bit hotter on the chronograph.

The gel tests online show that this load has good, reliable expansion and good penetration for 4-inch barrels. My own tests produce good accuracy, no muzzle flash, and reasonable recoil.     I’ve tried a few rounds in my Smith and Wesson 686, and as far as accuracy goes, these have been great! With a laser sight I was seeing 1-1/4″ groups at 68 yards. That’s the limit for my naked eye, so I put a scope on it and can consistently get 1.5″ groups at 100 yards. near 150 yards the bullets begin to tumble, but these have easily given me a 100 yard handgun.
