Will 5.56 Ammunition be Banned?
The Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives proposes a ban on some types of 5.56mm rounds. Other types of 5.56mm rounds would remain legal to buy, possess and shoot with weapons. The rule modification would affect only “M855 green tip” or “SS109” rounds with particular types of metal cores.

There is no difficulty with the lethality of the 5.56 caliber of NATO. Most NATO nations rely on the lethality of their 5.56mm and 7.62mm rounds. As a result, if nations want to hit long-range targets, projectiles, or cannons, it’s all about more training.
